CEM is one of the National Educators’ Academy of the Philippines (NEAP)-accredited Learning Service Providers (LSPs) that collaborated with the Department of Education on the Professional Development Program on Assessment and Emerging Literacies with focus on PISA (Assessment PD). This program aims to improve teachers’ assessment literacy and content knowledge to help them align their classroom practice with the emerging literacies measured by international assessments.
Particularly, CEM has been working on the development and delivery of the online training course on Teaching and Assessing Reading Literacy exclusive for DepEd teachers. To help adolescent learners become independent, strategic, and effective readers, this five-week course will introduce and guide teacher participants on:
- Most significant qualities, components, and strategies for reading comprehension instruction
- How to use the direct instruction method to design lessons for teaching essential comprehension and text evaluation strategies
- How to apply a variety of assessment methodologies to evaluate the processes and outcomes of reading including skills measured in PISA, such as locating information from texts and understanding, evaluating, and reflecting on texts
The course will run in two batches: February 14 to March 19, 2022 (Batch 1) and March 17 to April 30, 2022 (Batch 2). Activities will consist of asynchronous tasks and a few synchronous lessons. Completing this course will earn participants an e-certificate.
