Teacher Victor “Vic” Villanueva has two Master’s Degrees in Education, one from the University of the Philippines-Diliman, with a major in Reading Education, and the other from the University of Melbourne in Australia.

Teacher Vic has been trained and has completed Basic and Advanced courses on the Orton-Gillingham (OG) Approach in Singapore. The Orton-Gillingham teaching approach emphasizes a direct, explicit, multisensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive approach to teaching literacy. The OG approach uses direct and explicit instruction, wherein concepts are clearly stated, modeled, and practiced. Moving from supported practice to independent practice enhances learning and memory leading to automaticity and independent application (2022c)

He served as a Training Consultant for USAID Basa, Pilipinas Program. Basa, Pilipinas was a basic education project aimed at improving the reading skills of one million early-grade students by training teachers and school heads on effective reading instruction, producing curriculum-based teaching and learning materials (TLMs) for use in early-grade classrooms and strengthening the capacity of the Department of Education (DepEd) to effectively implement the language and literacy component of its K–12 curriculum reforms (Education Development Center, Inc., 2018).

Teacher Vic works with reading intervention centers under the Council of Reading Intervention Specialists, an organization he founded with friends and is now its president. In addition, he is a member of the Philippine Board on Books for Young People and has served two terms as the president of the Reading Association of the Philippines.
