Skilled reading is an important requisite for achievement in other subject areas. Learners must be able to read and understand written material on various topics, learn from different kinds of text, and interpret and use the information they read to complete academic tasks. Such tasks may include answering questions about or summarizing what they’ve read, identifying relevant and irrelevant information in word problems, comparing and contrasting ideas, providing supporting evidence for a particular idea, and the like.
